Assistance to Patients

Hemominas Foundations’ accumulated experience in assistance, including the establishment of outpatient care to people with sickle cell disease in 1991 and its partnership with Minas Gerais Neonatal Screening Program, has pointed out some actions necessary to improve assistance to patients in State of Minas Gerais.

Since 1998, Hemominas Foundation, a reference center in treatment and follow-up of sickle cell disease in State of Minas Gerais, has established partnership agreements with Minas Gerais Health Department, Support Diagnosis Center (Nupad/School of Medicine/Federal University of Minas Gerais) and City Halls.

DREMINAS - Association of Parents, Friends and Sickle Cell Patients from State of Minas Gerais - plays an essential social role in patient’s life. In partnership with CEHMOB-MG and other health institutions, it collects patients’ claims and promotes their citizenship.

Actions, such as assembling a multi-professional staff, providing access to medicines and examinations, and training physicians and nurses (especially those involved in urgency care), have already been established to improved assistance to patients.
