Multi-professional Aid

Adequate and accurate treatment and follow-up undoubtedly demand a multi-professional team to assist patients with sickle cell disease. This kind of holistic assistance is granted by a partnership among Hemominas Foundation, Support Diagnosis Center (NUPAD), Minas Gerais Health Department and City Halls, as it yields access to services provided by the Brazilian Single Health System.

Different specialists are available to assist patients: hematologists, infectologists orthopedists, physiatrists, pediatric hematologists, gastroenterologists, pharmacists, dentists, psychologists, physiotherapists, social workers, pedagogues and nurses trained in public health and transfusion medicine.

Assistance has also been granted by scholars and professionals from Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC Minas). They are integrated with CEHMOB-MG to provide access, support and services in the following areas: nursing, physiotherapy, speech therapy, literacy, medicine, nutrition, dentistry, psychology, social work, and occupational therapy.
