Patients
with sickle cell disease have available the infra-structures provided by
CEHMOB-MG (Center for Education and Aid on Hemoglobinopathies) and NUPAD
(Support Diagnosis Center, School of Medicine, Federal University of Minas
Gerais).
CEHMOB-MG provides patients and their relatives with a baby nursery, adult and child bathrooms, a kitchen, and an entertainment space with toys, television, tables and chairs. CEHMOB-MG also provides lunch and transportation.
CEHMOB-MG
promotes several educational, social and health-related activities developed
by its multi-disciplinary staff. Activities involving occupational therapy,
speech therapy, physiotherapy, dentistry, nutrition, literacy, psychology
and social work aim at supporting patients and their relatives in the former’s
treatment and in the everyday lives of both.
Moreover, CEHMOB-MG is supported by the Center for Education and Social Support (CEAPS). Its Treatment Control Sector follows up each patient’s treatment and thus improves CEHMOB-MG organization as well as patients’ and their relatives’ lives.

also offers a toll free call center (0800-722-6500) to support patients.
By calling CEHMOB-MG, patients can clear their doubts related to the disease,
its manifestations and its treatment.
Finally, CEHMOB-MG users will soon have available a mini-library with printi
materials about the disease and three internet-connected computers for research
on sickle cell disease and other hemoglobinopathies.
