Promotion
of education is one of the key bases of project CEHMOB-MG. Especially because
sickle cell disease is poorly known by people in general, CEHMOB boosts
training for health professionals’, patients’ and relatives’
awareness of the disease, as well as wide-ranging research and access to
information.
Aiming at improving assistance, CEHMOB commits to both sensitizing physicians
and nurses, especially those involved in urgent care, and training patients’
relativesCEHMOB has also developed a Care Protocol on Acute Events.
CEHMOB also embraces black people-oriented, self-esteem-promoting activities.
Since sickle cell disease particularly affects black people, CEHMOB works
on better and easier self-acceptance and family relationship among this
population.
CEHMOB endeavors to grant information access either to patients, relatives or health professionals by means of a free call-center. It also improves assistance and warmth offered to people with sickle cell disease.
CEHMOB coordinates patient-oriented, multi-disciplinary, socio-educational projects developed by students and scholars from Federal University of Minas Gerais. It also promotes workshops, edit textbooks and welcomes health professionals’ visits.
CEHMOB is also concerned with building up knew knowledge about sickle
cell disease. It invests both in novel researches on clinical and biological
aspects of the disease and in researches focusing on particular aspects
of hemoglobinopathies. Such studies represent an important tool in providing
education and assistance to people with sickle cell disease.
